The Albatross in the Dinning Room

Welcome to my dinnning room.  I redid this room the summer before last.  It was originally army green and so dark.  I lightened it up with a calming beige!  I know, beige.   I am usually one for color in my rooms, since it is the cheapest way to breath new life into a room, but not here.

I found this fabric that I loved and made curtains, a table runner and recovered seats on two chairs with it.  I was compelled to use as much of that fabric as I could.

This is a piece that I found at an antique mall.  It's original finish was not black  and it needed a little TLC.

And here is our little wine center, although we really don't drink that much wine.

And here is the albatross in the room...

It needs a little something.  I am toying with painting it and of course my first choice was Black.  For some reason I seem to only use two colors in a room. I need to branch out a little and thought this might be a good place to introduce a little color.  However, the realistic side of me says that black goes with everything and it might be easier to repaint the room rather than the piano!

You can see that the finish on this old gal has had better days.  I picked her off of Craigslist for around $150.00 and you can tell.

The piece still plays really well, despite her cosmetic flaws.  She could use a tuning though.

I would love feedback from anyone who has painted a piano or has any ideas for colors.  Please let me know what you think!

  1. My first immediate thought was a deep barn red with maybe a black underneath showing through in some spots. I noticed the red in the picture and thought that might be fun. Or you could play it a lil more safe and go with a cream color maybe with some red peeking through if you were up for it! I'm sure whatever you do, it will look great! Good luck!!!

  2. Hi, I have the same exact "albatross" in my livingroom that I don't know what to do with. I recently saw a post on a painted piano and she did it in turquoise. It looked great in her room, but that color wouldn't go in my livingroom. I would think black would definitely be a safe choice for you. Good luck, I'm sure it would look great!
